Ramblings of an IT geek
I’ve been meaning to look again at moving my VirtualBox (vbox) Virtual Machines (VMs) into the built-in hypervisor (bhyve using iohyve, the bhyve manager) that’s now in FreeNAS, but at my last attempt, last year didn’t get very far. I had a little time this afternoon, so thought I’d give it another go!
As the year draws to an end, I always look back and wonder how the year has passed by so quickly. As I get older, time seems to be moving so much faster, or at least it feels that way. I thought it would be interesting to look back on this blog I posted about how I used my FreeNAS server, as quite a lot has changed over the last 12 months.
Now I’ve been blogging for a whole year; you’ll probably start to notice some patterns in my behaviour. This year is no different to the last (several) with another Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar! I’ve just started a new contract up in Aberdeen which means I’ll be away from home Monday to Thursday, so the pictures might not get updated as frequently, and some of the models will be built by my daughter, once she’s done her Lego Friends one 😀
So, a quick update, obviously without any spoilers given most sensible people won’t be seeing until later today (no excused beyond that!) Let’s start with saying it’s good. How good is always a little subjective, but I’d say it’s in the ‘Good Range’ with The Force Awakens and Rogue One. I’ll need to watch again at a more sociable hour, and in 2D before I give a final verdict, but at the minute I feel it’s not quite as good as those, but not by much. read more…
Another calendar related blog, this time spanning back much longer than Star Wars Lego. This is my 15th, yes, fifteenth, Kylie calendar and a Christmas present I always look forward to the opening!
I’ll update this each month so you too (is there anybody out there?) can enjoy the pleasure of glimpsing Ms. Minogue every morning 😀
I’ve been using emby in anger now for two months, so thought I’d provide a quick update on how things have gone. I still have a jail running Plex 1.8.4, but it remains logged out of plex.tv and other than running in the background, scanning and updating with any new media I’ve added, I’ve not used it for watching any media in the house (although my 5-year-old daughter has used it occasionally on her iPad!). read more…
